ELECTRICAL STIMULATION
Electrical stimulation is a commonly used modality in physical therapy. Your body runs on electricity and electrical stimulation allows us to use this as a way to help healing.
What electrical stimulation does is send an electrical impulse into your body causing your muscle to contract and then relax. This in turn helps to bring increased blood circulation to the area, thus promoting tissue healing, decrease any muscle spasms by tiring out the muscle, and decrease inflammation in the area by changing the permeability of the surrounding tissues cell walls. In addition to these benefits, electrical stimulation also helps to overload the gateway message of pain to the brain, and therefore decrease your pain.
